BABELME
Privacy Policy — Last Updated: April 15, 2026
Overview
BabelMe is a real-time speech translation app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.
Information We Collect
- Account Information: When you register for BabelMe Messenger, we collect your email address and display name. Your username is auto-generated.
- Audio Data: Speech audio is processed in real-time for translation and is not stored on our servers. Audio is sent to third-party services (Apple Speech, Google Cloud Speech, Deepgram, ElevenLabs) solely for speech recognition and text-to-speech purposes.
- Messages: Messages sent through BabelMe Messenger are relayed in real-time via WebSocket connections. Message history is stored locally on your device only.
- Device Token: If you enable push notifications, we store your Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token to deliver message notifications.
- Language Preferences: Your selected languages are stored locally on your device.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide real-time speech translation services
- To deliver messages between BabelMe Messenger users
- To send push notifications for new messages
- To verify your identity via email OTP during registration
Third-Party Services
BabelMe uses the following third-party services to provide its functionality:
- Anthropic (Claude): For text translation
- Apple Speech Framework: For on-device speech recognition

Each service processes data according to their own privacy policies. Audio data sent to these services is used solely for the purpose of providing the requested service (speech recognition, translation, or text-to-speech) and is not stored by BabelMe.
Data Storage
- Server-side: Your account information (username, display name, email, language preference) is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Messages are relayed in real-time and not permanently stored on our servers.
- On-device: Message history, contacts, language preferences, and voice clone IDs are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage mechanisms.
